Legislature leads fight against climate change
Tuesday was a great day for California. California legislators acted on two climate measures that demonstrate California’s leadership in the climate change fight. The Assembly approved SB 32 that expands California’s greenhouse reduction targets. On the same day, the Senate passed Assembly Joint Resolution 43, which had already passed the Assembly. AJR 43 calls for a national price on carbon through a fee and dividend approach that would return money collected to U.S. households. The fee escalates gradually, increasing the cost of using fossil fuels and driving a faster transition to a clean energy economy. California is sending a strong message to our nation and to the world that we have a commitment to the welfare of future generations. California has acted. We now need action at the national level.
