Serial bank robbery suspect arrested
San Joseman, 25, accused in 6 summer heists in South Bay
SAN JOSE — A man suspected in six bank robberies across the South Bay has been arrested, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Spencer Havens, 25, of San Jose, was identified in part through surveillance images recorded at the Aug. 19 robbery of a Chase branch at 405 Blossom Hill Road. He is also suspected in an Aug. 25 robbery of a Wells Fargo branch at 7270 Bollinger Road.
A team from the SJPD covert response unit went to Havens’ San Jose home Sept. 15 and arrested him, police said.
Havens has since been tied to four more bank robberies that expanded his alleged reach to Sunnyvale and Cupertino, but details on the additional cases were not immediately disclosed. Authorities did say the six robberies occurred between July 19 and Sept. 13.
In the two publicized San Jose cases, a man matching Havens’ descrip- tion entered each bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash and stating that he had a gun.
