Wishing for closer
Giants G.M. has regrets
Giants G.M. Bobby Evans wishes he could’ve done more at the trade deadline. Specifically, Evans said he should have closed a deal on a closer. With the Giants having blown a major league-worst 29 save opportunities, Evans told MLB Network’s Jon Heyman the front office would have been smarter to acquire someone to help. “It isn’t lost on us. I wear it every day,” Evans said of not adding a closer. “Every time we lose, I think,‘What a knucklehead am I?’’ His candor may be refreshing for fans frustrated at the team’s bullpen. “We just have to gut check ourselves,” Evans said about keeping pace in the wild card race. “It’s still within our grasp.”
