Mount Pleasant students win film award

A teamof Mount Pleasant High School students has won the award for best biography in the internatio­nal Real to Reel Global Youth Film Festival, held earlier this month in Hollywood. Seniors Tommy Cabral and Mariah Barreda and juniors Sergio Conriquez and Adam Nguyen, all students in Mount Pleasant’s multimedia program, were honored for their film “Into Sergio,” about Conriquez’s quest to break barriers to East San Jose youth and become a software engineer in Silicon Valley. Conriquez also received a certificat­e of recognitio­n from the U.S. Congress. The festival showcases work that is directed by filmmakers ages 14 through 23 and that addresses pressing issues in their own and the broader community.
