and several days of unsettled weather,” said Drew Peterson, a forecaster with the weather service. “There’s more rain to come.”

Some of the wettest locations so far have been around Marin County and the Santa Cruz Mountains, which received more than 2 inches of rain, according to the weather service. As of 6:30 p.m., the wettest location has been in the Santa Cruz mountains with 2.35 inches. In the North Bay, Kentfield received 2.24 inches.

Modest rainfall totals were recorded throughout most of the Bay Area, although San Francisco (1.08), San Francisco International Airport (1.73) and Redwood City (1.13) each received over 1 inch of rain. By the evening, Oakland received. 73 inches and Concord. 52 inches.

While many locations have received between a half-inch to 1 inch of rain, San Jose and the South Bay have been teased with minimal amounts. The South Bay was stuck in a “rain shadow effect” on Thursday, forecasters said, a condition in which a mountain range causes prevailing winds to drop their moisture before reaching a nearby area. Most cities in Santa Clara County recorded minimal amounts of rain, including San Jose with. 06 inches.

“It’s pretty common when we get that southwest flow of moisture, it hits the Santa Cruz mountains and all pops out,” Peterson said. “There’s not much left over” for cities in southern Santa Clara County.

Asimilar storm system is expected to bring more rain to the Bay Area early Saturday morning and spread north to south, according to the weather service. Dry weather is expected Sunday.

But meteorologist Anna Schneider said Thursday evening there’s a chance of rain through Thursday.

The weather service reports a chance of rain next week on Tuesday or Wednesday, with the best chance of precipitation north of the Golden Gate.
