Open Division girls Archbishop Mitty vs. Clovis West-Fresno

Storylines: In MaxPrep’s computer rankings, Mitty is No. 1 and Clovis West is No. 2 in the nation.… The teams played Dec. 10 at the Iolani Classic. Mitty defeated Clovis West 76-75 in overtime. Krissy Miyahara scored 24 points and teammate Haley Jones had 16 points for the Monarchs, who led 58-49 at the end of the third quarter.… This is the first CIFOpen Division state final for both teams.… Mitty won Division II state titles in 2007, ’08, ’12 and ’15, a Division I championsh­ip in 1999 and a Division III title in 1995.… Clovis West has never played in a girls basketball state final.… Clovis West sank 28 of its 35 free-throw attempts to defeat Long Beach Poly 53-44 in the CIF Southern regional championsh­ip game. Arizona State-bound Bre’yanna Sanders, a 6-foot-1 forward, grabbed 12 rebounds and scored seven points in the game for Clovis West.… Other ClovisWest seniors headed to NCAA Division I colleges include Sarah Bates (UC Santa Barbara), Megan Anderson (San Jose State) and Danae Marquez (San Jose State).

Division I boys James Logan vs. Roosevelt-Eastvale

Records: James Logan 28-5; Roosevelt 25-8

Storylines: A state championsh­ip basketball game is a new level for both teams— James Logan has not reached a state final since 1985 and has never won a title; Roosevelt has never played in a boys state final.… Cal State Fullerton-bound Matt Mitchell and Cal-bound Jemari Baker are the stars for Roosevelt. Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 senior wing, is averaging 25.5 points per game and more than nine rebounds per game this season.… Both teams have not suffered an upset this season— all of their California opponents reached at least the regional tournament­s. In fact, three of Logan’s five losses are to teams that are playing for a state championsh­ip this weekend in other divisions.… Four Logan seniors (Ryan Parilla, Noah Conner, Edra Luster and Jordan McGlory) are all double-digit scoring threats.

Division II boys Moreau Catholic vs. Esperanza-Anaheim

Records: Moreau Catholic 25-9; Esperanza 29-3.

Storylines: Both teams are aiming for their first boys basketball state championsh­ip … Moreau has two players (Jullen Ison and Damari Milstead) who were freshmen on the Mariners’ last team to reach a state final. In 2014, Moreau lost to Bishop Montgomery-Torrance 85-44 in the Division IV title game.… Esperanza has never played in a boys basketball state final. … Esperanza is powered by Stanford-bound Kezie Okpala. The 6-foot-8 senior guard is averaging 30.7 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game and is rated as a four-star small forward by scout.com and rivals. com… Moreau has a dynamic offensive punch in Grand Canyon University-bound Milstead and super freshman KyreeWalke­r. The 6-2 Milstead is averaging 25.9 points and 5.3 assists per game; the 6-6 Walker averages 21.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Division III girls Campolindo vs. Rosary Academy-Fullerton

Records: Campolindo 27-6; Rosary Academy 29-5

Storylines: Campolindo has not played in a state championsh­ip girls basketball game since it won three Division IV titles from 1995-97. Rosary Academy has never played in a state final.… Rosary has won its past 11 games. The Royals defeated Serra-San Diego 63-43 in the CIF Southern regional championsh­ip game. … Rebekah Obinma, a 6-foot-1 junior, is very strong in the post for Rosary, and teammate Kate Goostrey is a long-range shooter to watch.… In a jaw-dropping performanc­e, Campolindo’s Haley Van Dyke set CIF Northern regional championsh­ip-game records for all divisions for most points scored (46) and field goals made (20) in a 78-56 victory over St. Mary’s-Berkeley on Saturday. The 6-foot junior also set a Division III girls record for most rebounds (20) in a CIF Northern regional championsh­ip game.… Van Dyke is averaging 23.9 points and 15.4 rebounds per game this season. Teammate Ashley Thoms averages 15 points a game.

Division V girls Eastside Prep vs. Rolling Hills Prep-San Pedro

Records: Eastside Prep 22-8; Rolling Hills Prep 32-3

Storylines: Defending Division V state champion Eastside returns a pair of players who scored a total of 31 points in the team’s 57-50 victory over Village Christian-Sun Valley in last year’s state championsh­ip game— Zion Gabriel (16 points) and Kayla Tahaafe (15 points).… Rolling Hills Prep has never played in a girls basketball state title game. … Rolling Hills has a 29-game winning streak, with its last loss occurring Dec. 20. .… Rolling Hills’ top scorers are a pair of freshmen guard/forwards — Alyssa Maxey and Macy Pakele. In the Huskies’ 68-56 win over Bellarmine­Jefferson-Burbank, Maxey scored 20 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, including 11 of the team’s final 13 points. Pakele had 18 points in the victory. Tahaafe is averaging 14.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game; Gabriel is averaging 14.2 points per game.
