Blaze hits Google conference
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Three event staff were taken to a hospital Thursday after a concession fire at Google’s annual conference for developers, I/O, at Shoreline Amphitheatre.
All three suffered minor burns, a Google official said.
Firetrucks and ambulances responded around 4 p.m. Mountain View firefighters extinguished the blaze.
“Employees at Shoreline at the kitchen area were attempting to light the deepfat fryer and there was a flash fire,” Mountain View FD public information officer Lynn Brown said.
The fire-suppression system in the kitchen put the flames out, Brown said.
Earlier reports from the fire department indicated one person hospitalized had received life-threatening burns, but Google reported all three hospitalized victims had minor injuries.
Three other victims of the fire, with minor injuries, declined to be taken to the hospital, Brown said. .
An editor with the magazine Fast Company, attending the conference, tweeted a photo of flames inside a concession outlet.
