Police identify woman accused of shooting ex-beau in parking lot
A woman arrested on suspicion of shooting a man in a Costco parking lot Wednesday was once romantically involved with him, and after opening fire she watched over her wounded ex until officers took her into custody, police and sources said.
Nori Tejero, 44, of San Jose was booked into the Elmwood Correctional Facility women’s jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and is being held on $25,000 bail, jail records show. A precise motive for the shooting remained unclear Thursday.
The violent episode was reported at 12:34 p.m. in front of the warehouse store on Almaden Expressway and Blossom Hill Road in South San Jose. Police say Tejero encountered the man as he was walking into the lot, but details on the lead-up to the gunfire were not disclosed by police.
What is known is that she pulled out a handgun and shot him in the leg, according to witnesses and a law-enforcement source, who added that there is no evidence she tried to flee the scene after opening fire.
Responding officers swiftly arrested her, and the wounded man, after being initially pulled to safety by shocked onlookers, was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for what police described as non-life threatening injuries. His condition was not publicly available.
Witnesses described the man as a Costco employee, and told reporters that the alleged shooter may have been his ex-wife. Authorities did not immediately confirm those details.
Both the store’s management and a spokesperson at the Costco corporate office near Seattle declined to comment for this story.
