Berryessa Union School Discrict board chooses new superintendent
SAN JOSE » Roxane Fuentes, a career educator from Southern California, has been chosen superintendent of the Berryessa Union School District.
Fuentes, 45, replaces Will Ector, who will retire Wednesday after six years leading the K- 8 district.
The Berryessa school board selected Fuentes from among five finalists, culled from nearly two dozen applicants. She begins work in the district Monday, and officially will become superinten- dent on Thursday. She will earn $208,000 annually and was awarded a three-year contract.
Fuentes has worked as a teacher, coach, principal and mostly recently as the assistant superintendent of educational services in the El Rancho Unified School District in Pico Rivera.
“Dr. Fuentes impressed the board with her compelling background in both student-focused project- based instruction and in the professional development and coaching of educators,” board President Thelma Boac wrote in a statement.
Fuentes earned a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Southern California, master’s degrees from California State University, Fullerton, and California State University, Long Beach, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California.
Berryessa serves 8,100 students at 10 elementary schools and three middle schools.
