Thrift stores attract wider demographic
Your insightful article on “thrift shop shopping” (Page 1A, Sept. 4) didn’t mention San Jose’s Thrift Box on Lincoln in Willow Glen. In the last three to five years, we have upgraded our display areas and reorganized our shop, recognizing that our shoppers now represent a wider demographic than was true years ago. By main- taining our traditional offerings and still adding more upscale merchandise (all donated by a generous community), we have been able to increase our contributions to the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford every year.
The San Jose Auxiliary, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and runs the all-volunteer Thrift Box, is committed to responding to the changes you identified in your article. We’re glad to know we are on the right track. — Sandy Krakowski, President, San Jose Auxiliary
