Push harder on cost of Delta tunnels project

- — Bryan Carr, Los Gatos

In a recent Santa Clara Valley Water District press release, board director Gary Kremen was quoted about the benefits of expanding Pacheco Reservoir, noting the importance of sustainable projects that defend our ecosystems and fish, increase supply, and protect ratepayers from flood. These are sound water management objectives that cannot be achieved with the Delta Tunnels.

As SCVWD gears up for an October vote on the Delta Tunnels, local ratepayers would love to see Kremen push harder against staff updates on the California WaterFix project.

A public figure and tech trailblazer like Kremen, refusing to accept staff’s data inconsistencies and vague responses about costs, water deliveries, and impacts on endangered fish species would send a powerful message to other water districts and the Department of Water Resources about the tunnels being an irresponsible business venture.

Let’s bring Kremen’s campaign promises of new tech for our water district to life. We need a 21st century solution to combat the immediate effects of climate change on our water supply.
