Why Chicago’s gun laws are ineffective
Sharon Hoehn (Letters, Oct. 10) and many others cite the ineffectiveness of Chicago’s gun laws as evidence that gun laws don’t work. Chicago’s gun laws don’t work because Chicago is isolated in the midst of many other municipalities with lax gun laws. Gary, Indiana, is not far away. Of course gun laws for a city are futile when all you have to do is drive down the highway a few minutes. A federal gun law would not have such a flaw, and it is the NRA that is responsible for buying and terrorizing enough legislators to block it. — Bill Gascoyne, San Jose
