PLEASANTON » A Pleasanton police officer injuredby a car driven by a burglary suspect was released from the hospital Thursday, authorities said.

An ambulance took the officer to a hospital Wednesday evening with serious injuries following an incident stemming from a burglary at a residence in the 700 block ofMontevino Drive, Pleasanton police Sgt. Aaron Fountain said.

Sgt. Eric Gola said the officer is not expected to be back at work for “a while,” but was at home recuperating Thursday.

Police were contacted just before 5:30 p.m. by a homeowner who received a motion alert from the home’s security system while he was away. Surveillance video the homeowner could see from his phone showed a man ransacking the house, Fountain said.

When officers arrived, they saw a man seated in a newer model Honda Accord. He started his engine and sped off on Montevino Drive, Fountain said.

At 5:38 p.m., a second officer saw a vehicle matching the description of the Honda at the intersection of Montevino Drive and Crellin Road. That officer exited the patrol vehicle and gave the driver verbal commands to stop, Fountain said.

Instead, the driver accelerated the car and hit the officer, then sped away on CrellinRoad, Fountain said.

Other officers responded to the scene and surrounded the area, but they weren’t able to find the suspect.

Police described the vehicle as a newer gray fourdoor Honda Accord with a front dealer plate having a light blue background with white lettering. The Honda alsohad anUber sticker affixed to the upper driver’s side of the frontwindshield.

Police urged anyonewith information to call the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.
