Authorities identifyman fatally struck by Caltrain

PALOALTO » Aman hit and killed by a Caltrain over the weekend has been identified by the Santa Clara CountyMedical ExaminerCoroner’s Office as Craig Rockhold, 59, of Palo Alto.
The fatal collision occurred at the California Avenue station in Palo Alto about 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
The death has been ruled a suicide.
Rockhold was a former water polo coach at Palo Alto High School and served as a referee for the sport.
“We are very sorry to hear about the passing of longtime water polo ref- eree Craig Rockhold,” USA Water Polo said in a Facebook post. “Our t houg ht s are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
In a reply to the post, Randy Snider called news of Rockhold’s death “absolutely devastating.”
“I had the pleasure of officiating with Craig for many, many years and he was truly one of the ‘ good guys,’ ” Snider said. “Took the job very seriously and professionally. A true asset to the game of water polo. He will be greatly missed.”
Rockhold grew up in Menlo Park and played water polo forMenlo-Atherton High School and UCLA, the Palo AltoWeekly reported. He also was an internationally ranked referee who led games at Stanford University, UC Berkeley and other West Coast institutions.
