QWhat is it with all the reckless dive bombers on Bay Area roads? They seem obsessed with being No. 1 in line and never seem to consider the possibility of taking their turn or merging in (what a concept!) behind another car.

The Highway 92 exit off Interstate 280 is a prime example of divebombing as is the ramp off Interstate 238 to Interstate 880 in the East Bay. I’m sure there are plenty more. Please remind these inconsiderate buffoons that we have to share the road and we’d all get our destinations a lot faster if everyone follows the rules of the road and are considerate of others.

A Dive bombing is a big Roadshow nono and a prime example of how poor driving can make our congested roads even messier. If you are trying to make a last- second jaunt into the next lane, at least use your blinkers to give others a chance to be on

extra alert.

Q On weekends if we travel into the San Francisco, we generally get into the carpool lanes on the far left side of the plaza. The other day, however, we noticed how one car would attempt to drive up to the toll booth from the far left lane, which happens to be the left turn off lane. It does not lead to a toll booth, but I suppose if you didn’t know better, you would see the lane, see how empty it was (imagine that!) and think that it was a “special” lane no one else was using and was kept clear just for you.

Once one or two cars did this, others quickly followed then realized their mistake and had to dive bomb into the line where we had been patiently waiting our turn. Of course, who wants to let someone in under those circumstances?

They are either casual weekend drivers who truly didn’t know any

better ( possible) or deliberately trying to cut into the line (also possible). Could Caltrans post a sign that marks that lane as “left turn only” or “does not lead to Bridge” for the truly obtuse?

A The ramp you are referring to heads off to the toll plaza parking lot. There’s already a sign posted and Jeff- the-Bridge- Guy sent a photo of it, adding “I’ve never observed the activity your describing. There isn’t even an onramp back to the freeway from the parking lot. They would have to drive illegally to return to the freeway. My gut feeling is this was a one- time mistake that led to lemming- like behavior.”
