Organizers have announced the second round of artists for the 29th annual San Jose Jazz Summer Fest lineup, including a number of significant Latin and salsa acts set to performat the festival Aug. 1012 at Plaza de César Chavez Park in downtown San Jose.

The additions to the lineup include Changüí Majadero; Orquesta Son Mayor; Rumbankete; Boogaloo Assassins; Christian Tamburr and Dominick Farinacci; Wayne Wallace and his Latin Jazz Septet; and Kristen Strom (showcasing her album “Moving Day — The Music of John Shifflett”).

Other newly announced acts include Aaron Abernathy Trio; Doug Beavers; SJZ Collective; Lydia Pense & Cold Blood With Fred Ross; Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88 s; Alastair Greene Band; Andre Thierry; Eddie Gale; Jessica Lá Rel; YASSOU; Ghost & the City; Eugenie Jonesl; La Tenaza Tango Son; and Maxx Cabello Jr.

A number of these acts will perform on the festival’s ever-popular Salsa Stage, which is booked by NPR radio personality Betto Arcos.

“None of the bands I’ve booked have performed at Summer Fest before, so it’ll be a first for them and Northern California fans of Latin music,” Arcos said in a statement. “The common denominator here is dance music, but each of the artists is so different and very representative of what’s hot right now in L.A. We’re bringing these bands north to interweave with the amazing acts on the Bay Area salsa and Latin music scene.”

Bruce Labadie, Artistic and Festival Director, sounds excited to have Betto booking the Salsa Stage.

“Betto and I met some years ago and I’ve always been impressed with his knowledge of Latin art- ists and expertise as a renowned radio host,” said Bruce labadie, San Jose Jazz artistic director, who heads the festival. “He brings knowledge from the potent Southern California music scene and an intense curiosity about Northern California acts and tastes. His point of view will be invaluable as we continue to present as many artists from Spanish speaking countries into our programming as possible across all Fest stages.”
