CHICAGO » The A’s will have to wait a day to start their four- game series against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Thursday’s 5: 10 p. m. scheduled series opener was called off eight hours before the first pitch because of the likelihood of all- day rain.

Instead the teams will try to play a straight- up doubleheader today, with the first game scheduled for 1:10 p.m. The second game would start at 5:10 p.m., or 30 minutes after the completion of the opener.

The bad news? Rain is also in today’s forecast.

The A’s will start lefthander Sean Manaea (6- 6, 3.56 ERA) in the first game. He was originally sched- uled for today’s night game. A’s right-hander Chris Bassitt (0-2, 2.45 ERA), who was set to pitch on Thursday, will work the nightcap.

The A’s enter the series riding four-game winning streak after Wednesday’s 12- 4 victory over the San Diego Padres and a sweep of the two-game in- terleague road series.

With five home runs in that contest, the A’s tied a teamrecord with homers in 21 consecutive road games, matching a record set between July 21-Sept. 13, 2013.

Chicago has dropped seven straight, including a 12- 0 loss at AL Centralleading Cleveland.

The series would continue with single day games on Saturday and Sunday before the A’s move on to a four-game series in Detroit.
