Reason for Madonna’s exile? Donald Trump
When will Madonna’s next comeback be? If she sticks to her guns, it might not occur until after 2020 or, if things don’t go as she hopes, possibly 2024.
Maybe we don’t call it a comeback, but instead her come-back, as in when will the original American Queen of Pop decide to come back fromher self-imposed-exile-and return to her waiting subjects?
Madonna has quietly uprooted her brood to Portugal, and recently she revealed to Vogue Italia that the reason for her family’s Amer- exit was none other than President Donald Trump. ( Madonna’s 12-year- old son David is also a budding soccer star, so the move to soccer-mad Europe makes sense for him. But that makes for a less-compelling yarn.)
“I felt like we needed a change, and Iwanted to get out of America for a minute — as you know, this is not America’s finest hour,” she told the publication. “Not that leaving America makes anything different or changes anything,” she continued. “I’ve lived in other places; I lived in London for 10 years. I like to putmyself in uncomfortable situations and take risks.”
As the Huffington Post pointed out, Madonna has been consistent in her criticism of Trump and his family. Prior to the 2016 presidential election, she endorsed Hillary Clinton over Trump in a roundaboutway with an image of Donald Jr. and Eric Trump on safari holding up a dead leopard for the camera. “One more reason to vote for Hillary!” she said.
“On election night I was sitting at a table with my agent, who is also one of my very best friends, and we were truly praying. It was just like watching a horror show.… I went to sleep, and since that night, I wake up every morning and it’s like when you break up with somebody who has really broken your heart.
“You wake up and for a second you’re just you, and then you go, ‘Oh, the person I love more than anything has just broken my heart, and I’m devastated and I’m broken and I have nothing. I’m lost.’ That’s how I feel everymorning. I wake up and I go, ‘ Wait a second. Donald Trump is the president. It’s not a bad dream. It really happened.’ It’s like being dumped by a lover and also being stuck in a nightmare.”
