SAP Center sets music fest for 25th anniversar­y

SAP Center at San Jose will continue to celebrate its 25th anniversar­y by hosting a free three-day music festival in September.

The SAP Center 25 Festival Weekend runs Sept. 1315, with each day focusing on a different genre of music — rock ‘n’ roll on Day 1, hip-hop on Day 2 and Latin music on Day 3.

Two of three concerts have been announced.

The Kings of the West show, featuring Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, The Game, Nipsey Hussle, and The Psycho Realm, perform Sept. 14. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 22.

Colombian reggaeton sensation Maluma takes the stage at SAP Center on Sept. 15. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 15.

Tickets can be purchased at the venue box office as well as at www.ticketmast­er.com.

The rock act (or acts) set to perform on Sept. 13 will be announced at a later date.

Prior to the concerts inside the venue, the SAP Center will be hosting local artists on an outdoor stage in the Arena Green each day.

The outdoor festival runs 2-7 p.m. each day and is free to attend. Besides music, there will be a variety of arts and crafts booths, interactiv­e games and rides, and a variety of food and drink options.

The SAP Center opened on Sept. 7, 1993, as the new home of the San Jose Sharks. Yet, the opening day event was a performanc­e from the Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus Over the years, the venue has hosted some of the biggest names in the entertainm­ent world, including Black Sabbath, Bob Seger, Roger Waters, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Paul McCartney, Leonard Cohen, Adele, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springstee­n, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Garth Brooks, JayZ, the Three Tenors (Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras), Madonna, Lady Gaga, Prince, Los Tigres Del Norte, Marc Anthony and U2.

It has also hosted many huge sporting events, including the 2016 Stanley Cup Final; two NHL All-Star Games (1997 and 2019); two Olympic Trials for USA Gymnastics (2012 and 2016); 1999 NCAA Division I Women’s Final Four, three U. S. Figure Skating Championsh­ips (1996, 2012, and 2018) and Roger Federer’s Match for Africa.
