Police say man threatened to shoot up GoDaddy office
Investigation leads to arrest at residence
SUNNYVALE » A 50-yearold San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of threatening to shoot up the GoDaddy Inc. office in Sunnyvale, authorities said Wednesday.
In a news release, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said Michael Depaulo called the internet domain registrar and web hosting company on Monday and said he was “minutes away” from walking into the office and “shooting people with a shotgun at random.”
The department said an investigation led detectives to a residence in Richmond, where local police arrested Depaulo without incident Tuesday.
Depaulo was booked into Santa Clara County jail on a criminal threats charge. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court today, according to online jail records.
GoDaddy spokesperson Dan Race confirmed that Depaulo is not a current or previous GoDaddy employee, but declined to comment on any details beyond that.
“GoDaddy takes the safety of our employees extremely seriously and we are working with local law enforcement on this incident,” Race said in a statement.
Additional information about the case — including whether Depaulo owns a firearm or was ever in the vicinity of the GoDaddy office — was not immediately available.
The case remains under investigation and the department is asking anyone with information to contact Detective Andrew Herbert at 408-730-7147 or aherbert@sunnyvale.ca.gov.
