The city of Hayward will open up the streets in its restaurantrich downtown Saturday so that food lovers can take advantage of Alameda County’s alfresco dining.

The pilot program, now in its second week, will take place on B Street between Foothill Boulevard and Watkins Street and on Main Street from A to C streets.

Vehicular traffic will be rerouted starting at 2 p.m.

The event, which includes both small businesses and restaurants, will run until 10 p.m.

For the inaugural event June 27, many restaurants set up tents and socially distanced tables in the streets and on the sidewalks.

Confirmed participants for this week’s event include Buffalo Bill’s Brewery, Bon Mange, PLaYT, The Dirty Bird Lounge, Charlotte’s, TikTok Desserts, Rockit Char Gril, Acqua E Farina,

Sapporo, The Cupcake Shoppe, Metro Taqueria, Erik’s DeliCafe and Marley’s Treats — with others expected to sign on before Saturday.

Alameda County’s health officer, with state approval, had amended the county COVID-19 shelter-in-place order to allow for the reopening of retail stores and outdoor dining June 19.
