Disdain for Trump voters must end if we are to unite
In his column “For the election, America did the right thing — barely” ( Nov. 10), Leonard Pitts laments that the “blue wave” didn’t materialize. Instead, America actually became more “red.”
He further declares the election was “a clear choice between good and evil.”
Interestingly, these statements provide clues about why the blue wave failed. Pitts dismisses approximately half of America because they didn’t vote as he thought they should. His demonizing of opposing viewpoints as evil stereotypes is ignorant, irresponsible and divisive.
Pitts’ sanctimonious attitude of political entitlement and intolerance has become characteristically “blue.” If America’s goal is unity and equality, Pitts would do well to respect that no matter who someone voted for, almost as many Americans voted otherwise. That doesn’t make them wrong or evil.
Instead, Pitts’ views this political diversity as unfathomable and undesirable as if his is the only acceptable way to think. Get a clue.
