Freight train strikes, kills pedestrian in San Jose

SAN JOSE >> One person is dead after being struck by a Union Pacific freight train early Thursday morning in south San Jose, company officials confirmed.

The fatal collision occurred about 1: 30 a. m. Thursday around the intersecti­on of Senter and Monterey roads, where a southbound train struck and killed a pedestrian. An investigat­ion is ongoing after San Jose police, fire and rescue responded to the scene, a Union Pacific representa­tive said.

No one else was injured in the crash, according to

Union Pacific.

San Jose police declined to provide any additional informatio­n.

The Santa Clara County coroner’s office has not yet released the identity of the victim.
