Biden’s defense pick likely too pro-military
Retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin was an outstanding military officer. But is he suited for the job as secretary of defense? (“Biden wants retired general to serve as Pentagon chief,” Dec. 9).
Because of his background, he may be too pro-military. The job requires a person who is not too pro-military or anti-military, but an unbiased centrist with an open mind.
Militaries around the world have too much influence over their respective governments, a situation that has caused many wars throughout history.
