Hopeful column leads Republicans to light
I beg to disagree with Steve Ortiz (“Columnist’s change of heart comes too late,” Letters to the editor, Page A6, Jan. 13).
I appreciate the Mercury News opinion page presenting both sides of the political arguments. Indeed, I had begun reading Marc Thiessen because he seemed so sincere at the end of the election trying to tell all the simple things the president only had to do to hold on to power (“Trump has blood on his hands after inciting the mob,” Page A13, Jan. 10). I found it instructive to see the hole logical people kept falling into when trying to understand this particular president, even for a conservative like Thiessen.
I feel the column he wrote Sunday was his finest in the time I have been reading him. His shock and dismay at the insurrection of Jan. 6 has made him see the light. Would that more members of the GOP become so enlightened.
