Teen boy dies after crash, city’s 7th traffic fatality
FREMONT >> Two days after the city logged its sixth traffic fatality of the year, police said a teen’s death earlier this week after a collision last week had increased that number to seven.
Around 9:30 p.m. July 4, officers responded to a reported collision between a bicyclist and vehicle at Hansen Avenue and Dutra Way.
When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old Fremont resident suffering lifethreatening injury; they provided care before taking him to a trauma center. On Wednesday, police said the teen had died. Chief Kimberly Petersen offered her condolences.
“I have two teenagers myself, and I cannot imagine the grief and sorrow this young man’s family is experiencing,” Petersen said. “On behalf of the Fremont Police Department, I offer our deepest condolences to the young man’s family and friends.”
Authorities did not immediately confirm the teen’s identity.
The driver, identified only as a 23-year-old Fremont resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, with neither alcohol nor drugs appearing to be a collision factor. On Wednesday, police said their investigation into the collision continued but they did not believe the driver appears responsible and “do not anticipate making any arrests,” according to a statement.
