Educator arrested in spat between spouses
A high school math teacher was arrested last week on suspicion of stabbing a husband trying to talk to his estranged wife, police said.
Mary Donnetta Torrecillas, 43, was arrested early Friday morning at her Campbell apartment after police were called for reports of a disturbance, Capt. Charley Adams said.
Officers arrived to fi nd a 44- year- old San Jose man suffering from stab wounds to his shoulder and hands, Adams said. The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Adams said the man’s estranged wife was staying with Torrecillas, a teacher at Westmont High School. When he went to the apartment, a fight broke out between him and Torrecillas that ended with the teacher grabbing a kitchen knife, Adams said.
Torrecillas was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and is free on bail. Calls and a message left at her listed phone number were not immediately returned, and the Campbell Union High School District did not return calls for comment.
