Feinstein grabs easy win over Danville’s Emken
U. S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein easily defeated her Republican challenger, Elizabeth Emken, of Danville, to win a fourth term.
Political experts never thought the 79- year- old California senator would be vulnerable in this election, and she consistently led Emken, 49, in fundraising and polls.
Emken, formerly an autism nonprofit executive and lobbyist, ran an aggressive campaign and blasted Feinstein for refusing to debate her, but
ultimately polls showed most voters by late October still had no opinion of Emken.
June’s “top two” primary system saw 24 contenders in this Senate race. Feinstein finished first in that primary with 49.3 percent of the vote, while Emken finished second at 12.6 percent.
