Los Gatos high product Cady Chessin has been selected to the United States women’s wrestling team for the PanAmerian Olympic Festival next month in Mexico City.

Chessin, a two-time state champion and threetime CCS champ, will be a sophomore at Menlo College this fall. Chessin will compete at 55kg (121 lbs) at the competition that begins July 14.

“When I got the call, I was excited. I was not expecting it so it was a bit of a surprise too,” Chessin said in a Menlo College release. “Wrestling on Team USA was something I always hoped to accomplish. I always thought it would be awesome to reach this level of wrestling, knowing that getting on the team would provide me with great experience and training.”

Former Stanford star Paul Goldstein has been named the Cardinal’s head coach. Goldstein replaces John Whitlinger, who announced his retirement in May.

Goldstein played at Stanford from 1995-98, helping lead the Cardinal to a 104-6 overall record and becoming the first player in NCAA history to compete as a starting member of four consecutive national championship teams.

Goldstein, an All-American in each of his four seasons, finished his career with 84 dual match victories, fifth in program history.

The Giants snapped a season-high four-game losing streak in a big way, as every starter had at least one hit in a 15-3 win over Modesto at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Brian Ragira and Elliott Blair had three hits each, and Trevor Brown drove in three runs for the Giants, who scored more runs in the first three innings — 7 — than they had in the previous four games combined (6).
