TUESDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS

-

Reds: Cincinnati manager Bryan Price is sorry for using foul language in a pregame tirade but stood firm on his stance that media shouldn’t report developments he thinks would put his team at a competitive disadvantage. “I used a lot of bad language that I feel bad for in the aftermath,” Price said. “The content between the profanity is exactly how I felt, and I won’t apologize for that under any circumstances.” During the daily pregame meeting with the media Monday, Price used a common vulgarity 77 times during a 5- minute, 34- second diatribe. He was particularly upset over a Cincinnati Enquirer report that catcher Devin Mesoraco wasn’t available to play during a game in St. Louis because of injury. He also was upset a reporter tweeted that indicated a player was being called up from the minors. “It’s nobody’s ( expletive) business,” Price said. Nationals 2, Cardinals 1: Yunel Escobar homered with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, then celebrated with a headfirst slide into home plate. Red Sox 1, Rays 0: Wade Miley and four relievers combined on a four- hitter, and Boston took advantage of an error to beat Chris Archer. Cubs 9, Pirates 8: Wellington Castillo’s RBI groundout in the ninth capped Chicago’s comeback from a three- run deficit.
