Were early Prius owners all nerds and dweebs?

- Los Altos San Jose

Mr. Roadshow

QIt’s

a fact that early Prius owners were dweebs or nerds.

Bob Sutis AHey,

as a Prius owner since 2006, I take great offense at this. I prefer to think “enlightened” is more fitting. Why do you make such an unfounded and insulting claim? QEarly

Prius owners would glide up to traffic lights on city streets so they could smugly eke out every milliliter of gas and gloat. But happily that has changed. Current Prius drivers are a new breed who accelerate from a stop and who drive aggressively on streets and highways.

On a recent trip to Los Angeles on Interstate 5, I was even passed by young Prius drivers, in contrast to years past when mostly aged Prius drivers were the road boulders of Mrs. Roadshow’s nightmares. The change is welcome.

Bob Sutis AAre

you saying I’m old? You are treading on very thin asphalt. Prius dweebs, sound off. QI

am irritated. Why? Let me tell you. I see a lot of cars that have HOV stickers but are not in the carpool lane. You know the ones that you had your sticker removal party for a couple of years back? I see Teslas, Leafs and other electric cars that qualify that have them, but these folks persist in using my non- carpool lane. Why did you get them if you are not taking advantage of the perk and just clogging up our lane? I do not get it.

The other day I saw a gentleman in a Tesla get in the carpool lane to pass a car, then get back out of the lane and continue on his merry way. Really? That’s when I knew I had to write to you. I commute from San Jose to Martinez on Interstate 680, and I see it both north and south.

They even avoid the toll road that is also a carpool lane. It seems they think they have to pay if they use that lane. Tell them they have to have only two people in their car to use it for free, thus opening up non- carpool lanes.

Tesla driver may have been conserving his battery by going slower to make sure he has enough juice to get home. Does this make him a dweeb? QJust

bought a Prius V, and I’m thinking ahead. Looks like the battery can be reconditioned for about $ 800. Advice?

Ray Hosler APrius

owners tell me the electric battery lasts well past the warranty. I bet by the time you need a new one, the cost will have dropped. QMy

commute is starting to look like a scene from a “Road Warrior” movie, with motorcycles getting more and more brazen in their lane- splitting. It’s out of control. Some expect you to pull out of your lane to let them pass, and then give you the finger when you don’t. And the new law will make it legal to split lanes at 50 mph? This is nuts.

I long for the days when all I had to worry about was a slowpoke Prius.

Dennis Cole AOr

a slowpoke dweeb.
