Fremont deli to close

After 43 years, retirement plans are putting an end to Fremont’s Cheese Taster, a mainstay in the Mission San Jose district. The delicatessen that introduced the world of European cheeses to the Bay Area’s fourth- largest city, and served sandwiches and homemade soups to thousands of Ohlone College students, will close Tuesday — so there’s still time to stop in for one more lunch. Owner Judy Miller says she wants hugs from her clientele. “We have made so many friends, watched your families grow ( some for 4 generations!) and hopefully kept you happy, fed and wanting more!” she wrote on her Facebook page.

Lark Creek change: At San Jose’s Santana Row, the Lark Creek Blue restaurant has been relaunched as Lark Creek Kitchen, a new concept for this evolving space. There’s a new culinary director ( Eric Markoff, formerly of Town Hall in San Francisco) and new seasonal food and cocktail menus. The Moana Restaurant Group has taken over the operations of most Lark Creek properties and renovated Blue, giving it what they call an American tavern feel. The inaugural menu features local halibut, duck tacos, cheese- stuffed squash blossoms and warm cookies and milk for dessert. Not to worry, diners: That butterscotch pudding made famous by Bradley Ogden is still on the menu. barbacoaorinda. com and www. table24orinda. com.

Last call for croissants: If you’re a fan of the French- style baked goods at Pascal Rigo’s La Boulange patisseries, you have until late September to get your fill. Starbucks, which bought the shops in 2012, is shutting them . The announcement affects all locations; locally, that means Danville, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Palo Alto and Burlingame.
