MONDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS

-

Rangers: Texas slugger Prince Fielder is expected to have season-ending neck surgery for the second time in three years, and his career could be jeopardy as well. Fielder got a second opinion Monday, and general manager Jon Daniels said Dr. Drew Dossett recommended surgery. Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles gave the same diagnosis last week after an MRI showed a herniation between Fielder’s C4 and C5 disks. Blue Jays 4, Padres 2: Aaron Sanchez pitched seven shutout innings to win his 10th consecutive decision. Sanchez (11-1) became the first Blue Jays pitcher to win 10 straight since Roy Halladay won 15 decisions in a row in 2003. Halladay and Roger Clemens (1998) hold the club record. Phillies 4, Marlins 0: Jeremy Hellickson threw six innings of one-hit ball, and Tommy Joseph hit a two-out RBI double in the eighth to break a scoreless tie.

Orioles 3, Rockies 2: A throwing error by Colorado reliever Jordan Lyles allowed Adam Jones to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for Baltimore, which has won five straight.

Tigers 4, Red Sox 2: Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and Justin Verlander pitched six solid innings to spoil Drew Pomeranz’s second start with Boston. Brewers 7, Diamondbacks 2: Milwaukee hit four home runs, and four relievers allowed two hits and no runs in four innings, spoiling the major-league debut of Arizona pitching prospect Braden Shipley. Yankees 2, Astros 1: Michael Pineda allowed five hits and one run in seven innings, and Austin Romine hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth for New York.

Angels 6, Royals 2: Albert Pujols drove in four runs, and Hector Santiago won his fifth consecutive start to lead Los Angeles over Kansas City.

White Sox 5, Cubs 4: Tyler Saladino singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after the Cubs scored two in the top half to tie it at 4-4.
