Where is the South Bay’s trashiest interchange?

Q Can we conduct a poll on the trashiest interchange in San Jose? My vote goes to the Highway 101 north interchange to Interstate 880. Disgusting. Paul Rodriguez A Oh, man. Do you realize I have just a 20-inch column? But let’s roll. Cast your vote now. Q Is Caltrans ever going to take care of the overgrown weeds and vegetation that plague our ramps for Highway 101 at Lawrence Expressway and Mathilda Avenue and at Interstate 280 and Saratoga Avenue?

My neighbors and I have put in work requests on Caltrans’ website and all we get are responses that say “situation acknowledged.” That is not helpful.

Ingrid Christiansen A Caltrans will conduct a Bay Area-wide cleanup next month. Q Any chance Caltrans is responsible for Monterey Highway debris, specifically between Bernal Road in South San Jose and Cochrane Road in Morgan Hill? Been seeing a lot of big, bulky items dumped on the side roads. The dump is just a few minutes away from there, too. I just don’t get people sometimes.

Norm M. A

Me neither. Q This may sound like a silly suggestion, but do you think if someone (not me, though) organized a Bay Area cleanup for roads that we could set a Guinness World Record and provide some much-needed trash pickup for our highways? My neat-freak side wants to jump out of my car (which I won’t do) and pick up garbage. Our roadways really are bad!

Ann Rice A And the ugly sites are spreading. Q There appears to be a new garbage dump at Highway 101 south to Highway 85 north. I drive it every day and the illegally deposited crap on the side of the road is increasing.

Barry Gordon A Sofas, mattresses, chairs, beds and tables. Q Can anything be done about the ridiculous amount of trash that adorns the entrances to I-280 from McLaughlin Avenue in San Jose? There is a serious homelessness problem where people are camping out next to the ramps and leaving their trash everywhere. I’ve almost hit shipping carts, boxes and other debris.

AJ Strong A

Ugh. Q I have been observing an alarming increase in the amount of garbage on Highway 237 near Maude Avenue in Sunnyvale. Go take a look. It’s as if a whole truck of garbage was spilled there. It looks awful.

Marcia Kearns A

It does. Q Let’s look at Caltrans’ side of the litter story. The budget for litter and weed abatement has been cut in order to support roadwork. And unless some increase in taxes is dedicated to a cleanup, litter will continue to pile up. And Caltrans is spending more and more dollars and crew time cleaning out homeless camps.

Ken Colson A That they are. To cast your vote for the trashiest interchange, email me at mrroadshow@bayareanewsgroup.com.
