Impostor poses as campaign volunteer
San Jose residents report at least one argumentative man
SAN JOSE — State Assembly candidate Madison Nguyen appears to be dealing with one or more argumentative campaign volunteer impostors.
At least one man posing as a campaign volunteer has been visiting San Jose homes and getting into arguments with residents, Nguyen’s campaign said.
“I want to be very clear that this person or persons is not with our campaign — we expect all our volunteers to treat everyone with respect,” a post on Nguyen’s Facebook page read.
Nguyen’s campaign manager, Chris Ratana, said they started getting multiple reports about these incidents a few days ago from San Jose’s Evergreen neighborhood but haven’t received any new complaints since then.
“We posted on social media so our supporters can be wary about this. We also do not know why this person is posing as a volunteer for us,” he said on Sunday.
Ratana said they have a possible photo of the man, but they don’t want to release a description because they still need to verify if this is the correct person and what happened. He said they don’t know this person and it’s unclear what the arguments were about.
Volunteers are given official materials from the campaign, but this man or other people are approaching residents without these handouts.
Anyone with more information may contact Ratana at 408-471-9143. Nguyen, a former San Jose councilwoman and vice mayor, is running against San Jose City Councilman Ash Kalra for the District 27 seat in the California Assembly.
