Donald Glover will play Lando in Han Solo stand-alone
Donald Glover will play Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo stand-alone movie, Lucasfilm announced Friday.
I can’t wait to hear who they’ll pick to play the Millennium Falcon.
The movie will explore the early years of Solo — played by Alden Ehrenreich — and his friend and fellow scoundrel Calrissian, before they got involved with Luke, Leia and the rest of the gang. The Lando role was played by Billy Dee Williams in the original “Star Wars” trilogy.
The yet-to-be-titled film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Glover is on a major roll in Hollywood. He’s best known for his four years on NBC’s “Community,” as well as for creating and starring in the critically acclaimed FX series “Atlanta.” He also appeared in “The Martian” and will be in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
And if those credentials aren’t good enough, know that he was nominated for a Grammy for his “Because the Internet” album, which he recorded under the name Childish Gambino.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” Miller and Lord said in a statement, posted at StarWars.com. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations.”
The Han Solo film is scheduled to be released in 2018.
