Sonny Dykes has found employment, and it should come as no surprise that the former Cal coach’s new gig is in Texas.

Dykes will join TCU’s staff in an undetermined role, according to various media reports Sunday afternoon. 247Sports.com was the first to break the news.

The Horned Frogs, who run the Raid system that is Dykes’ specialty, recently promoted Sonny Cumbie to the role of offensive coordinator. The Fort Worth Star telegram reported that

Dykes was expected to be named an offensive analyst.

Dykes, 47, grew up in Texas, went to school in Texas and coached in Texas.

It was no secret that he wanted to return to Texas. In fact, his dalliances with Houston and Baylor at the end of the regular season, while under contract with Cal, were the driving force behind his early-January dismissal.

Dykes has an offset clause in his Cal contract, meaning that any compensation earned from post-Cal employment would reduce the amount owed by the Bears as part of his buyout.

Christine Scheyer of Austria upset the pre-race favorites to win a women’s World Cup downhill in her home country, while Lindsey Vonn placed 13th in her first race in nearly 11 months.

Not being able to push out of the start gate as usual, the American was more than half a second off the lead at the first split and finished 1.54 behind the Austrian. “I have a little start routine with my poles and I couldn’t really do that with my right hand,” said Vonn, the four-time overall champion. “I also kind of lost grip on my pole after the last jump.”

Alabama athletic director n Bill Battle plans to step down from his job.

Battle announced that he will assume a new role as special assistant to the president.
