McKenzie, Godfrey choose USC

M-A’s Mims commits to play for Fresno State

Jalen McKenzie, the 6-6, 295-pound offensive lineman from Clayton Valley Charter, tweeted that he has committed to USC.

Rated the No. 2 offensive tackle in California by Scout.com, McKenzie had narrowed his final three to the Trojans, Maryland and Baylor. McKenzie is the second East Bay player in recent days to commit to USC. Defensive back Je’Quari Godfrey from Bishop O’Dowd tweeted on Sunday that he had flipped his commitment from Cal to USC.

McKenzie and Godfrey will be joined at USC by Alijah Vera-Tucker, who also is from O’Dowd. He is listed as an offensive tackle by USC and like McKenzie is rated a four-star. McKenzie is the son of Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Jordan Mims, who n rushed for 2,388 yards while helping Menlo-Atherton win section and regional titles in the fall, has committed to Fresno State, he announced this week.

This publicatio­n’s South Bay/Peninsula offensive player of the year, Mims will be part of a recruiting class that includes this publicatio­n’s East Bay offensive player of the year, Freedom running back Ronnie Rivers, whose dad starred at Fresno State.

Jerrell Alberty, a 6-0, n 215-pound running back for McClymonds’ state championsh­ip football team, has announced that he is committed to San Jose State.

Alberty, who was a firstteam all-Oakland Athletic League player, is the first Bay Area player to commit to the Spartans under new coach Brent Brennan. Alberty is the fourth player overall to announce for SJSU since Brennan replaced previous coach Ron Caragher last month.

St. Francis’ Bennett n Williams received his first major conference college offer as Illinois joined a number of Mountain West and Ivy League schools that have asked the West Catholic Athletic League’s most valuable player to play for their program.

“This offer is HUGE for me!” Williams, a defensive back and receiver, told this publicatio­n via Twitter. “I feel like I am able to finally exhale.”

Williams, this publicatio­n’s Soutb Bay/Peninsula defensive player of the year, said he will visit the campus on the weekend of Jan. 28.
