Bulldogs pull away in second half to snap SJSU win streak

San Jose State saw a halftime lead disappear at Fresno State, and the host Bulldogs ran off with a 7759 win on Wednesday night to snap SJSU’s four-game win streak.

The Spartans (13-11, 67 Mountain West) held a 35-30 lead at the half and maintained a three-point advantage with 14 minutes to play.

A Deshon Taylor (22 points) layup followed by a Jahmel Taylor 3-pointer proved to be the turning point for Fresno State (1511, 7-7) as the defending conference champions ripped off 24 of the next 27 points to seize a 62-44 advantage with seven minutes to go. The Spartans turned the ball over a season-high 20 times, 12 of which came in the second half.

Ryan Welage scored 18 points for the Spartans. Brandon Clarke, San Jose State’s leading scorer, was held to a season-low four points.

Nevada 78, Air Force 59: Cameron Oliver scored 25 points to lead the Wolf Pack (20-6, 9-4 Mountain West) over the Falcons (10-16, 310) on the road. Nevada now trails first-place Colorado State by a half-game.

San Diego State 66, Utah State 62: Trey Kell scored 21 points as the Aztecs (1510, 7-6 Mountain West) held off the Aggies (11-14, 5-9).

No. 12 Duke 65, No. 14 Virginia 55: Jayson Tatum scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half as the 12thranked Blue Devils (21-5, 9-4 ACC) won their sixth straight.

Seton Hall 87, No. 20 Creighton 81: Khadeen Carrington scored a careerhigh 41 points to lead the Pirates (16-9, 6-7 Big East) over the 20th-ranked Bluejays (21-5, 8-5). Women San Jose State 77, Fresno State 68: The host Spartans (9-16, 6-7 Mountain West) trailed by 16 points with 8:01 to play in the third quarter and then put on a furious comeback to tie the game 60-60 to send it into overtime before pulling away from the Bulldogs (1411, 7-7).

Dezz Ramos scored 27 points and had eight assists to lead San Jose State.
