Washington’s Plum scores 35; moves to 2 on NCAA scoring list

Nigel Hayes scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half, Ethan Happ had 20 points and No. 11 Wisconsin beat No. 23 Maryland 71-60 on Sunday.

The Badgers (22-5, 11-3) overcame 27 points from Terrapins guard Melo Trimble to snap a two-game losing streak and stay in a tie atop the Big Ten with No. 16 Purdue.

Creighton 87, Georgetown 70: Marcus Foster scored a career-high 35 points and the No. 20 Blue Jays broke open the game early in the second half.

Butler 82, DePaul 66: Nate Fowler scored 15 points and Kelan Martin added 14 points and eight rebounds for the No. 24 Bulldogs.

Michigan State: Spartans starting guard Eron Harris will need seasonendi­ng surgery on his injured right knee, ending his college career.

Georgia: Bulldogs coach Mark Fox said that leading scorer Yante Maten is out indefinite­ly with a sprained right knee.

Women

Washington 87, USC 74: Kelsey Plum scored 35 points to move into second place on the NCAA’s career scoring list and help the No. 9 Huskies beat the Trojans.

Plum needed just three points to tie former Baylor star Brittney Griner on the list, and she hit a 3-pointer with 3:35 left in the first quarter to tie for second. Her free throw with 2:04 left in the first lifted her to second behind former Missouri State star Jackie Stiles. Stiles had 3,393 points, and Plum has 3,315.

Missouri 62, South Carolina 60: Sophie Cunningham made a layup with 0.6 seconds to give the Tigers a comeback victory over the No. 6 Gamecocks.

Mississipp­i State 72, Texas A&M 67: Victoria Vivians scored 25 points and the No. 3 Bulldogs avoided an upset with a win over the No. 23 Aggies.

UCLA 67, Washington St 48: Monique Billings tied a school single-game record with 25 rebounds as the No. 18 Bruins beat the Cougars.

Duke 83, Miami 70: Lexie Brown scored 28 points as the No. 13 Blue Devils bested the No. 16 Hurricanes.
