Alum Rock teachers have earned their pay raise

It makes me really happy to see that these teachers (“Alum Rock teachers union reaches tentative pact,” March 22) are getting a raise. I run an after school program for fifth graders at an Alum Rock Union School District school, and because of this I have seen firsthand how difficult their job is and how much they truly care for the children.

There is always at least one teacher in the room with me and the kids, and they always have a smile on their faces, no matter how grueling their day was. Teachers all over the country are underpaid and overworked. Let this be the first step for more teachers getting increased compensation for all the effort they put in.
