Driver, passenger killed in fiery crash

Coroner’s office was still working to notify the victims’ families

MORGAN HILL — A male driver and his male passenger were killed Sunday night when the driver lost control of a Chrysler Sebring on Santa Teresa Boulevard, drifted sideways into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Toyota Camry, according to police.

The ages of the driver and passenger were not immediatel­y released by police. Monday morning, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office was still working to notify the victims’ families.

Before the crash, which was reported at 7:15 p.m., the Chrysler was “observed traveling northbound on Santa Teresa at a high rate of speed,” according to a Morgan Hill police report. The driver lost control of the car in the area of Sunshine Street and Native Dancer Drive, drifted sideways into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Toyota Camry.

The Sebring was located on the west shoulder of Santa Teresa with major damage to the front and passenger side. After impact, the Sebring ignited in flames, according to police. “Officers attempted to rescue the driver but the vehicle was on fire and the damage was too extensive,” according to the police report.

Morgan Hill firefighte­rs arrived and initiated a rescue, according to police. The driver and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Camry got out of the car on her own and was located by police. She was taken to a hospital with non-life threatenin­g injuries, according to police.
