Hall of Fame pitcher dies: Former U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, a Hall of Fame pitcher who parlayed his sports fame into a political career as an uncompromising advocate for conservative causes, has died. He was 85. Bunning’s family said he died late Friday of complications from a stroke suffered last October. For a complete obituary, see A 10. Dodgers 5, Cubs 0: Chase Utley had three RBI and Brandon McCarthy and Ross Stripling combined on a three-hitter as Los Angeles notched its eighth win in 10 games. Angels 5, Marlins 2: Mike Trout hit his 16th homer, most in the majors, and Los Angeles beat Miami. Cardinals 3, Rockies 0: Adam Wainwright kept up his mastery of Colorado by scattering three hits over seven innings, Tommy Pham hit a two-run homer and St. Louis beat Colorado. Nationals 3, Padres 0: Stephen Strasburg had a career-high 15 strikeouts while allowing three hits over
seven innings as Washington beat San Diego. Twins 5, Rays 3: Brian Dozier’s tiebreaking two-run home run for Minnesota with two outs in the eighth spurred the Twins past Tampa Bay. Brewers 6, Diamondbacks 1: Chase Anderson took a no-hit bid into the eighth as Milwaukee snapped Arizona’s five-game winning streak. Anderson (3-1) struck out a career-high 11.
Royals 5, Indians 2: Alcides Escobar hit a tiebreaking tworun double in the sixth and Mike Moustakas homered, leading Kansas City to a win over Cleveland.

Pirates 5, Mets 4: John Jaso singled home the tying run in the ninth and the winning run in the 10th, and Pittsburgh overcame Andrew McCutchen’s baserunning blunder to beat New York.

(4): Chicago’s Tyler Danish worked around six walks over five innings in his first major league win in the first game of a doubleheader. In the nightcap, Detroit’s Buck Farmer (1-0) struck out a career-high 11 and allowed three hits in 61⁄3 innings, getting his first big league win.
Chicago finalized a minor league contract with the 19-year-old outfielder Luis Robert, a deal that includes a $26 million signing bonus.
