MOUNTAIN VIEW » A man who fired a gunshot at another man during a confrontation outside a liquor store and later carjacked a motorist is being sought by police.

The first incident occurred 7:25 p.m. Thursday outside the Bailey Plaza Liquors on the 500 block of North Shoreline Boulevard, when a male got into an argument with another man and fired one shot in his direction, according to Mountain View police.

As officers responded to the scene of the shooting, they were notified that an armed carjacking had just happened down the road from the liquor store at Montecito Avenue and San Pierre Way.

Once at the liquor store, officers learned that two men had gotten into an argument. As one of the men began to “retreat into the store,” the suspect, who was in his vehicle, fired a single shot and sped away.

No one was hit by the gunfire, according to police.

Police say the suspect drove westbound on Montecito, got out of his car and approached a man in a Honda CRZ. The suspect forced the driver out of the Honda and drove away.

Police searched the area for the suspect. Less than 30 minutes later, police found the unoccupied Honda in a traffic lane on the 1500 block of California Street. Police did an extensive search of the area but did not find the suspect.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic man in his early to mid 30s, about 5-feet-10 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He had stubble on his face and was described as having a tattoo on the left side of his neck. He was last seen wearing a light-gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
