Man dead, woman injured in attempted murder-suicide
SAN JOSE >> A man is dead and a woman was injured in a shooting being treated as an attempted murder-suicide in the Santee neighborhood on Wednesday morning, according to San Jose police.
Investigators believe that the man shot the woman and then turned his gun on himself. No other suspects are being sought.
“We have no reason to believe there are any outstanding suspects,” Sgt. Enrique Garcia said. “The community doesn’t have to be in fear someone being on the loose.”
Officers were called about 8:55 a.m. to the 1000 block of Creston Lane, off McLaughlin Avenue, for reports of a shooting and a man lying in the street. They arrived to find the man, as described, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police also found a woman inside a nearby home suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and she was rushed to the hospital. Police said she is expected to survive.
In fact, she was one of the people who called for help.
“She ran away to a nearby residence to call 911,” Garcia said, “to report that she had been shot.”
Garcia said there are no other victims linked to the shooting.
According to sources familiar with the police call, the man and woman were in an argument before the shooting occurred. Garcia declined to comment on their relationship, saying only that “they were known to each other.”
The shooter is believed to be in his 20s, sources said. His identity was not immediately released.
