Police announced the arrests of two men in connection with a deadly double shooting in broad daylight last summer near the San Jose State campus.

San Jose residents Isaac David Brown, 25, and Raymond Gabriel Estrada, 29, have been arrested and charged in the killings of Edwin Verduo and Meneses Rangel, who were shot June 28, 2016 while driving in a van on South 11th Street near East San Antonio Street.

Brown has been charged with two counts of murder and Estrada was charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact.

Both men were actually arrested in May — based on a submission to the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers tip line — but police said they did not announce the arrests immediately because they were still tracking down witnesses and did not want their memories compromised by the release of booking photos.

“The delay in announcing the arrest of the suspects was made to prevent undue influence as we attempted to contact additional witnesses for the identification process,” police said in a statement.

Police were called around 2:11 p.m. on June 28, 2016 for reports of a shooting and found two men — Verduo, 20, and Rangel, 22 — suffering from gunshot wounds inside a van that had been shot multiple times. Both men were rushed to the hospital, were they died from their injuries.

Brown is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County main jail, and Estrada is being held there on $296,000 bail.
