Tired of the hot weather? Relief is on the way, but it might not last long.

Following another round of scorching conditions Monday, temperatures are expected to drop between five to 10 degrees today and Wednesday, according to Roger Gass, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

That means some locations, such as Gilroy and Livermore, will see midweek highs in the low 90s instead of 100plus degree scorchers, according to the weather service. The respite will be brief as temperatures are expected to soar again by the end of the work week, potentially delivering another round of tripledigit highs on Friday.

“It’s definitely going to be a roller-coaster ride the next few days,” Gass said.

Temperatures on Monday mirrored Sunday’s, and the weather service issued an excessive heat warning through 9 p.m. for much of the Bay Area. Highs Monday included Livermore (107 degrees), Gilroy and Concord (103 degrees), San Jose (91 degrees), Redwood City (83 degrees) and Oakland (79 degrees).

Sunday’s hot spots included Healdsburg (106 degrees) in the North Bay, Livermore (107) in the East Bay, Redwood City (90) in the Peninsula and Gilroy (102) in the South Bay, according to the weather service.

Forecasters with the weather service aren’t sure how hot the end of the work week will get. But they are expecting another warming trend to kick off September.

“We’re pretty confident there will be a warming trend,” Gass said. “How hot it will get, that is the question mark.”
