SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 15th meeting, with San Jose State holding a 10-4lead. They last met on Sept. 26, 2009, in San Jose, when the Spartans earned a 19-9victory. San Jose State also defeated Cal Poly at Spartan Stadium 17-7in 2006. Before that, the schools had gone more than 40 years without playing, with the Mustangs having defeated the Spartans in San Jose 10-6in 1958.

STORYLINES: San Jose State looks to get first-year coach Brent Brennan his first win after a 42-22loss to South Florida in the opener. … Josh Love got the start at quarterbac­k for the Spartans against USF, but it was redshirt freshman Montel Aaron who finished the game, playing the entire fourth quarter. Love completed 18 of 36passes for 192yards with two touchdowns and three intercepti­ons. Aaron was 7of 13for 86yards and a touchdown. Brennan was again mum on who will start Saturday, so expect another game-time decision. … Brennan will be going up against the school that gave him his first coaching gig at the collegiate level. He was a wide receivers coach for the Mustangs from 2001-04. … A win over Cal Poly would mark the sixth consecutiv­e season in which SJSU starts 1-1. STATS THAT MATTER: San Jose State jumped to a quick 16-0 lead over USF, but three intercepti­ons quickly helped get the Bulls back into the game. Not having forced a turnover on defense, the Spartans lost the turnover battle 3-0.
