49ERS AT SEAHAWKS
SITE: CenturyLink Field, Seattle. KICKOFF: 1:25 p.m.
TV: Fox.
RADIO: KGO 810 and KSAN 107.7 The Bone. THREE KEYS
1. Stay off skates: Nike has a commercial featuring Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson running past pseudo49ers defenders (actors) who are depicted on roller skates. Even though the 49ers are 0-6in Seattle against Wilson, they have kept games close early when they have hounded him, and the Seahawks’ woeful line appears a willing accomplice this year. It’s not Wilson’s running (no more than 33yards in a 49ers game) more so than his ability to buy time and launch passes to open receivers on broken routes.
2. Seize early momentum: This is the Seahawks’ opener in their deafening amphitheater, so quieting the crowd noise early will help a 49ers offense prone to false starts and third-down issues. Memo to Marquise Goodwin: catch the ball this time if Brian Hoyer throws a bomb your way on the first series. The only time the 49ers have scored in the first quarter in their six-game losing streak at Seattle: a lone field goal in the 2013 season’s NFC Championship game, which gave them a 3-0 lead in an eventual 23-17 heartbreaker (franchise-breaker).
3. Avoid turnovers: A weekly goal, the 49ers offense especially can’t afford turnovers in Seattle. Just ask Colin Kaepernick, who accounted for eight turnovers in his first three starts there in 2012-13. Hoyer’s two turnovers in the 49ers’ opener eventually were cashed in for Carolina Panthers touchdowns in the 23-3defeat. Hoyer must be more protective of the pigskin, and same goes for Carlos Hyde, whose running might give the 49ers their best shot at an upset. INJURIES: 49ers — Linebacker Reuben Foster (ankle) is out. Safety Jimmie Ward (hamstring) is questionable. Seahawks — Linebacker Terence Garvin (shoulder) is doubtful. Cornerback Richard Sherman (hamstring) is questionable.
