1. Keep it simple: Anyone can beat anyone in the NFL, but most often talent wins. The Raiders have considerably more talent than the Jets. Lean on the offensive line to open holes and control the clock, relying on occasional play-action for the big play with quarterback Derek Carr downfield. Defensively, don’t go heavy with blitzing and assume Khalil Mack and Raiders defenders can defeat the offensive players in front of them.

2. Win now, look good later: Everyone is looking for a blowout. Don’t get consumed with that. Gil Clancy, the late boxing trainer and analyst, used to say of aspiring fighters, “Win now, look good later.” That means doing what it takes to win and not concerning yourself with how it looks. A unanimous decision beats a surprise loss any day. If it ends up being 20-13 and a win, so be it. There will be some criticism. It doesn’t mean anything.

3. Let Marshawn score: C’mon. If there’s first and goal at the 2 in the Coliseum, Marshawn Lynch should get a look no matter how the defense is aligned. Yes, there are overloads and reasons to change plays, but a constant of football is this — good running teams can run no matter how many defenders are in the box. It’s a good thing to prove and put on film early in the year, and a great time to establish it in Week 2against the Jets. And the home crowd will love it.
